Writing is Hard…or is it?

As I mentioned in my last post, I will be participating in NaNoWriMo next month. That’s in 8 days.

Eek!

I’ve begun a bit of character sketching, a bit on where my novel will take place, and even a bit on the plot. For a girl who writes by the seat of her pants (Pantser), this is a new thing. I’m trying to be half pantser and half plotter. I think one has to if they will get through having to write 1667 words a day for 30 days, right? Right?

I’d love to here how you roll. Whether your plan is to join me next month for NaNo, or just writing in general, please share whether you are a pantser or plotter? And what your process looks like?

So, as I always say,

Write On!

  1. I am participating in NaNo for the first time this year! I’m extremely excited and scared about the whole process! I wrote the first chapter to a new story a couple weeks ago and have decided to use it as my inspiration for NaNo. I have always been a discovery writer (fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants) writer like you. I tried doing a story with outlines, character and plot scetches, etc…and it took all the fun and life out of my writing. I recently started listening to some creative writing lectures by Brandon Sanderson on YouTube and they have been immensely helpful. I would suggest them to any writer! He said that his method was to outline the setting and discovery write the characters, which seemed like how I wrote the first chapter for this story. So that’s what I’m doing. I drew out a map of my setting to help keep things in order and have three or four plot points to get me from beginning to end, and the rest will still be up to my imagination!
iI wish you the best of luck and look forward to seeing your updates as you write!
