Appearing Different

Just when I thought I had the Children’s book I’m writing figured out, I realized I’m actually writing a chapter book . . . not a middle grade book. That is exciting!

I’m the kind of writer that likes instant gratification. I know what you’re going to say . . . you’ve written a 300 page -68,000 word novel  that only took you 9 months to write, and you just figured this out? Okay…

I guess, what I’m thinking here is that with a chapter book, it’s only 48-80 pages long and the word count is between 1,500 and 10,000. A huge gap there in words, but I like the page count. As I write, I think ahead. I plan the ending before it’s there, then plot (in my mind), how I’ll get there.

Simple? Maybe not. But with less words to have to worry about, this will be easier and more fun.

I’m excited to finish this “chapter book”. And I said in an earlier post, it will be finished by Oct 31st, Halloween! Just in time to begin another great Sam adventure for NaNoWriMo–National Writing Month, where we write 50,000 words. Mine of course, won’t be that, as my reader wouldn’t have the patience for that word count, but I’ll complete the novel . . . that is the goal!

So, as I always say,

Write On!
